Although the weather rarely changes here in San Diego, summertime has a special feel, marked by longer days, bbqs, holidays and vacations. Even if we aren't spending our days at the beach or by the pool, we can't be too troubled by weekly rehearsals and robes, so we have Summer Choir.
Summer choir is an informal collection of singers drawn primarily from the Sanctuary Choir which regularly provides musical leadership at the 9:30 service. We meet promptly at 9 am in the choir room (below the Sanctuary) to warm-up and have a brief rehearsal on a fun or familiar anthem that is suited to the theme in worship that day. This group is open to anyone who would like to give it a try, no need to read music or make a reservation, just show up at 9 am on Sunday morning.
Below you will find a list of anthems and dates, and when available I have included a YouTube video of the selection. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact music director, Juan Acosta jacosta_fumccv@yahoo.com or 619-656-2525
Sunday, July 6th - In This Very Room Ron and Carol Harris
Sunday, July 13th - This Little Light of Mine arranged by Mark Hayes
(this is a publisher sample recording which always has a slightly cheesy sound, don't let it scare you)
Sanctuary Choir will resume rehearsals on Thursday, August 21st as we prepare for our annual POPS Concert and Christmas Concert in addition to singing in worship each Sunday.
As we enter into the final preparations towards Holy Week, I wanted to share some resources for the Dubois in order to help our preparations and understanding.

Cyberbass - does not yet have a Dubois "Seven Last Words"

This website promises to be an even better resource but for whatever reason does not work on my desktop, hopefully you have better luck.
Below are just a few of the great pieces we have coming up between January and June of this year!
Rehearsals are on Thursday nights from 7-9pm in the choir room and start back up on January 9th. Contact Juan Carlos Acosta jacosta_fumccv(at)yahoo.com for more information
The Ground (Pleni sunt coeli) - Ola Gjeilo
Worthy to be praised - Byron J. Smith
The Seven Last Words - Franz Joseph Haydn (we'll sing it in English)
I want to start off by saying that I am incredibly proud of the work you all did, both in preparation and in performance. Now that I have had some time to reflect on this process I am overwhelmed with a sense of gratitude.
The live stream video of the concert has been archived and is currently available on u-stream. Though it may ask you to log in, you do not actually have to be a member or log in with your facebook account to watch the video. If I can figure out a way, I will see if I can embed the video here in the blog so you do not have to open a different website.
We do not have a hard copy of this recording and while it is possible to pull this from the website, it does take a level of computer wizardry I have not achieved yet. The video quality is not good, but the audio quality is not bad. I do not know how long that the video will be available, it could be taken down at any time so if you are interested in viewing it, please do so soon.
